The name for this work translates to “his home” in French, a title I chose for several reasons. The simplest of these is that the reference photo was taken in the subject’s favorite French café. The content of the title reflects the personal nature of the work. A home is an intimate space that requires an invitation to enter, not unlike the human mind. There were mixed emotions that went into this: love, for the subject, but also concern. He is lost in his own thoughts, in his own inner home, and seems both close to the viewer but also far away. I hope the work serves as an examination of what it means to be close to someone and yet to be unaware of the struggles in the landscape of his mind.
